Abstract
In this article, the influences of initial pulse and gain fiber parameters on the pulse's self‐similar evolution are studied by numerical simulation. We propose and demonstrate that dispersion length is the determining factor of pulse's self‐similar evolution. For a given input pulse, if dispersion length is comparable or smaller than fiber length, it can evolve into similariton, otherwise it can not. Under the self‐similar evolution condition, increasing pulse energy and gain coefficient can accelerate self‐similar evolution, otherwise the effect is not evident. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
