The baculum is a nonappendicular bone found in the glans tissue of members of five orders of mammals. Its function during copulation is unknown. Anatomical examination of the baculum and corpus cavernosum in the Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus) shows that the two structures are connected by a layer of
