The existing Nordic Prediction Method for Railway Noise is more than 10 years old [1]. It was developed as a manual method for fairly simple geometries. During 1993-4 it became clear that a complete revision was necessary. The method is primarily intended to serve as a planning tool. It can be used to calculate the 24 hour energy equivalent level, Leq( 24), and the maximum level, Lmax , of individual trains. The main results are given as A-weighted levels, but octave band levels can also determined.
