In preceding studies (Singer, '46a ; '47) which have sought to analyze the influence which nerves exert on regeneration of the forelimb of the newt, the importance of number of nerve fibers was established. Each amputation level of the limb was found to require the presence of an adequate quantity of fibers, expressed as a threshold range, in order that regeneration of the limb proceed.
