The Nature of the Edge Emission in CdS

Several authors have discussed the nature of the so called edge emission in CdS, discovered by Kr6ger in 1940. Lambe c.s. 1) and Smith 2) have given experimental evidence that those emission bands having wave lengths in the region 5100-5500 ~, are not due to the decay of excitons, but to recombination of electrons and holes via an impurity centre.
