Shear-induced microstructural transitions in aqueous systems of a cationic commercial esterquat-type surfactant used in concentrated fabric softeners were rheologically and microscopically characterized. Binary (surfactant/water) and ternary (surfactant/CaCl 2 /water) systems were studied. The obtai
