Overview: John Harris prefaced his career in writing with a life of action. Born in 1916, he went to sea with the merchant marine, worked as a bartender and coal heaver and served with the RAFβs Air-Sea Rescue Service during the war. He had been a professional cartoonist, but then devoted his time to writing. He wrote 24 novels under his own name before his death in 1991.
