Rofessor Lester King has set out to portray and interpret the morphology of the whole earth. Throughout nearly seven hundred pages, thought is focussed upon the whole, rather than upon the details. The style flows smoothly, the imagination soars, and the subject itself is so interesting that one's attention is held to the end. At the same time, one is exasperated by statements of opinion (sometimes "fortified" by quotations whose source is not mentioned) as though they were facts, by the looseness of the argument, failure to consider alternative interpretations, the apparent unawareness of much relevant modem work, the vagueness of the references to the work of others, and the extraordinary manner in which terms are "defined".
