Abstract
The structure of the bisβdimethyl trimethine cyanine perchlorate crystallizes in the space group Cc with the lattice constants a = 7,873 Γ , b = 19.01 Γ , c = 7.735 Γ , Ξ² = 103.36Β°. It was spatially and anisotropically refined to a discrepancy factor of 0.09. The Cο£ΏC distances in the trimethine chains show the bond length compensation typical of polymethines. The Nο£ΏC distances are roughly similar and correspond to partial double bonds. The valence angles of the three methine carbon atoms alternate and are in turn above and below 120Β°. For the oxygen atoms of the perchlorate anions, a disorderβlike, statistical distribution on closely adjacent atomic layers is assumed. The trimethine chains are packed aggregationβlike in unidimensional stacks. Their centre planes and chain axes are not, however, parallel to each other.
