Abstract

The dislocation velocity, , in basal slip shows a maximum within the range of homogeneity of the Laves phase MgZn^2^. The temperature dependence of can be described by an thermally activated mechanism with an activation enthalpy of (1.7 ยฑ 0.3) eV in agreement with macroscopic deformation experiments.
