✦ Synopsis
A field experiment to examine the effect of ammonium sulphate, calcium nitrate and muriate of potash on the magnesium content of ryegrass is described. The nitrate form of nitrogen gave significantly higher levels than did the ammonium form. Potash depressed magnesium levels in the early season but had irregular effect later.
The effect of nitrate-N application on the content of other minerals was also examined. Calcium and sodium followed a similar, but less marked, trend to that of magnesium, whereas potassium was not influenced by nitrogen source.
