The Mine Explosion at Johnstown. BY M. G. MOORE, Miuing Engineer in charge of the Mining and Coking Department of the Cambria Steel Company.
On the tenth day of July, 1902 , there was an explosion of fire damp in the Rolling Mill mine of the Cambria Steel Company at Johnstown, Pa., which resulted in the loss of II2 human lives, and was, in this respect, probably the most disastrous that ever occurred in the State of Pennsylvania.
The explosion presents some such peculiar features that a statement of the facts relating to it may possibly be of interest to the members of the Institute.
DESCRIPTION OF ROLLING MILL MINE,
The Rolling Mill mine was opened by the Cambria Iron COmpany in I856 to supply their mills and works with coal and, with the exception of the two years of I888 and I889,
