iR spectroscopic and volumetric study under reaction conditions of the mechanism of photocataiytic hydrogen production from gaseous methanol and water revealed that CO2 and Ha were produced by reaction between adsorbed CHsO(ad) and H20. Another reaction path for Hs production, CHsOH(ad) -+ HZ + HCHO, was suggested which is dominant in the absence of water.
