✦ Synopsis
Coexistence curves for binary liquid mixtures of x CHCOOC H q 1 y 2 5 2 . Ž . 4 x CH CH CH have been determined by measurement of the refractive index. The 3 2 7 3 experimental results have been used in the determination of the critical exponent and the critical amplitude B, and the study of the diameters of the coexistence curves. The values of the critical exponent are found to be consistent with theoretical predictions. The coexistence curves have been successfully described by a combination of the Wegner equation and the Ž . y r expression for the diameter. The exponents r and b in the relations 1 y r A M and c c y 1 .865 yb Ž . B A M , where is the critical volume fraction of CHCOOC H , have been c c 2 5 2 Ž . Ž . found to be 0.42 " 0.01 and 0.31 " 0.04 , respectively, consistent with observations from experimental studies for other chain-molecule solution systems, and support the Landau᎐Ginsburg᎐Wilson type model we proposed recently.
