โœฆ Synopsis

New OCR, formatted and lightly proofed, v1.0.

Relentlessly thrilling as a hang-by-the-finger-nails tale of chase, and thoroughly as an account of where our age may well be heading, this double-barrel led novel of menace should give the customer nastily wonderful hours of enjoyable unease.

The year is 1962. Inventor Phillip Maxwell has just discovered psychotape - which can be played back for total reproduction of the emotions of whoever has made the recording. Maxwell, who has happened on the device only through his research for a means of alleviating his total insomnia, is amazed when the Hollywood cinemogul Zakon takes a sudden and violent hand in exploiting the gadget.

That Zakon is no ordinary entrepreneur is soon evident, for he seeks nothing less than world control through the salting away of all the earths drones in his "dream palaces" where the weak-willed can go and experience indefinitely the passions of others - like the luscious actress Verna Graham.

Maxwell soon realizes he must check the all powerful Zakon. His attempt to do so, his involvement with three attractive yet startling different women, his near entrapment by his own invention- make a novel which English reviews have described as "fascinating" and "enthralling" using "an idea with enormous and terrifying possibilities." Reader, enjoy yourself, but be advised you'll not soon get "The Man Who Couldn't Sleep" out of your system.
