The mass spectrum of the lowest lying octet baryons is calculated to next-to-next-to-leading order in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and partially quenched heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We work in the isospin limit and treat the decuplet baryons as dynamical fields. These results

The chiral limit of finite-volume &CD is the e-regime of the theory. We discuss how this regime can be used for determining low-energy observables of QCD by means of comparisons between lattice simulations and quenched and unquenched chiral perturbation theory. The quenched theory suffers in the e-r
