✦ Synopsis

The intervention of tropylium ions in the electron impact induced fragmentations of aromatic compounds has been recognized in a number of instances, of which alkylbenzenes and their derivatives have provided the majority of examples (1). We wish to report some preliminary results which have bearing on the structures of the ions involved in butylbensene fragmentation.
