✦ Synopsis


The energies of the zero levels of the iower excited states of the mono-negative ions of naphthalene and biphenyi and the mono-and di-negative ions of anthracene, tetracene and pentacene were determined by a closer inspection of the lower frequency regions of their optical spectra. These reuslts will be used in forthcoming papers dealing with the photoelectron ejection of the ions by means of nanosecond ruby laser pulses.

## Abstract The problem of assigning the two small ESR. coupling constants of the [16]annulene radical anion to the two sets of four equivalent outer and inner ring protons is treated by three different semiempirical MO methods. All three methods indicate that the smaller coupling constant (0.743 G
