โœฆ Synopsis

Kat pulled up her hood and brought her cloak around her as she walked slowly along the gangplank and onto the jetty, sailors fanning out around her. Fine rain drifted almost mist-like across the docks, soaking barrels and handcarts, making the stones slippery beneath her steps. She turned back to the Hierophant and offered the Meister a wave, which he returned with a kindly smile before retreating into his cabin.

A long shuddering breath left her lungs when she realised she was alone.

She patted along her cloak, her fingers pressing on the empty purse at her belt. It brought to mind a piper's bladder, how it would deflate to a formless sac if left without breath. The Feuerschwert rested in its sheath, silent and cold. How would she get money? Would she need to get a job? She wondered how she would find work, or whether she would have to take on an apprenticeship.

What the Meister had told her about the gods struck her as nonsense. Although he had shown her kindness, she was almost certain he had taken that sailor's eye as revenge for her beating. They were Guardians, but what that truly meant was still a mystery. They sought the truth and protected the innocent, but how far did they go to pursue their ends? If she had learnt anything, it was that truth is malleable and ever shifting.
