โฆ Synopsis
Various experiments, on both classical and high-Tยฉ superconductors, demonstrate that the expression for the masnetic field (London field ) appearing in a superconductor which is brought into steady rotation involves the bare mass of the superconducting electrons. The theoretical analysis by London (1950), however, implies that the magnetic field depends on the effective mass. London's argument is re-examined by analysing critically the way in which the effective mass of the electrons enters the London equations for a rotating superconductor. It turns out that, in accordance with the experiments, the London field depends on the bare mass of the electrons, while the penetration depth is determined by the effective mass.
