✦ Synopsis
Long vapor grown carbon fibers (VGCFs) have been obtained using a new method, the liquid pulse injection (LPI) technique. A benzene solution of ferrocene was injected to the surface of the hot wall of the reactor. Ferrocene was rapidly heated and decomposed, yielding ultra-fine iron catalyst particles. on which VGCFs were grown. VGCFs as long as 44 mm were obtained within 30 seconds using this new technique. Furthermore, the maximum average growth rate of them was over 2500 &m/s, which is much higher than those of conventional VGCFs. This growth rate permits the production of VGCFs longer than 10 mm within a few seconds.
