โฆ Synopsis
We present high resolution inelastic neutron scattering measurements of the linewidths of crystal field transitions in Tm0.1Y0 9Ba2Cu306รทx, which are proportional to the local magnetic response of the Cue 2 planes at t'lie traiisition energies, 12 to 14 meV. There is no change in the magnitude ot the dynamm susceptibility going from x=0.1 to the normal phase of x=0.9, but a reduction with decreasing temperature starting 20K above T c indicates the formation of an energy gap in the spectrum of Cue 2 spin excitations in the superconducting phase.
