✦ Synopsis

We derive new approximations for the likelihood ratio statistics that are used in testing hypotheses involving simple tree order. They are based on asymptotics when the number of populations tends to infinity and variances are equal.

As an application quantiles are obtained that are much easier to calculate than exact critical values or the gamma-approximation usually proposed in literature. Our quantiles also provide often better approximations than those known in literature. (~) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

## Abstract The E‐pulse technique has been applied in the past to the early‐time component of an ultra‐wideband radar response. Though its availability has been validated by several scale‐model targets, as pointed out by Poter's research results, the Prony model used in the E‐pulse technique is mis
