THIS note is concerned with the lateral stability of a non-prismatic beam loaded through the centroid with a concentrated mid span load. The beam is simply supported at each end in the vertical and horizontal planes bul the end supports prevent rotation about the longitudinal axis. The vertical rigidity is large compared with the lateral rigidity. The lateral rigidity, B, and the torsional rigidity, C, are assumed to vary linearly but independently from each end to the centre of the span, about which the beam is symmetrical, so that for ~ ,~ ~ FL~,'. 2.
