✦ Synopsis

"It's regarding your father," Wulfric said and hesitated for a moment. "He died from illness a couple of weeks ago."

"My father," Anna repeated and walked past him to look out the window that overlooked the convent garden.

"You're the lady of the Harold estate now," Wulfric said. "The king has tasked me to bring you home. We can leave when you're ready. I've procured a carriage and..."

Anna did not answer but turned around and hid her face in his shoulder.

"Why does everyone have to die?" she cried into his chest.

Wulfric stood frozen for a moment, then he loosely put his arms around her. He had no idea how to comfort her and simply stood there, patting her back gently while she cried. He liked the feeling of her in his arms though; he could not remember how many times he had dreamed of it.

Wulfric Rosenkranz has been in love with Anna Harold since he was a teenager. She on the other hand only ever had eyes for the king's brother, Valdemar, whom she married. Since she was widowed two years ago Anna have been living in a convent trying to come to terms with Valdemar's death.

When her father dies, she returns to her ancestral estate to manage it. Wulfric escorts her on the week long journey there and a friendship starts to form between them. Everyone seems to think that it would be a splendid idea if the two married, but Anna has her doubts. Uncertain whether she is able to let another man into her life, let alone fall in love again, she keeps opening up to Wulfric then shutting him out again.

Finally, his patience with her is up and he starts looking for another bride. And Anna is fine with that because she doesn't love him herself, or does she?

The Lady's Dilemma is the second book in the series Dynasties and Desire and an independent continuation of The Queen's Choice.
