In this paper we show that there is a homomorphism (\psi) from a congruence subgroup of (\operatorname{Sp}(2 n, \mathbf{Z}[i])) to ({ \pm 1}) which generalizes the classical Kubota homomorphism (k:\left({ }^{\prime}{ }_{d}^{d}\right) \rightarrow(c / d)) where ((c / d)) is the quadratic residue symbol associated to (\mathbf{Q}(i) . \quad) r 1995 Academic Press.
