Synopsis

An experiment to determine the relation between the relative number of knock-on electrons excited in Pb-layers by the penetrating component of cosmic radiation and the thickness of the Pb-layer, is described. To ensure that only those penetrating particles above a certain limit in the energy spectrum is explored, the total Pb-thickness for a whole series of readings was kept constant. An explanation of the cnrves that were obtained is also given.
