Abstract

Renal biospsies and renal function tests were done on 41 rheumatoid arthritis patients. Histologically, vascular disease was found in 14, amyloidosis in 4, and lupus nephritis in 2. The kidney was' normal in 21. β€œRheumatoid” glomerulitis was not found in any biopsy, but occurred in 6 of 16 autopsies. The significance of these results is discussed with particular reference to the effect of gold salts on the kidney and the interrelationships of cortisone treatment and amyloidosis.
