โฆ Synopsis
Highly soluble polyoxomolybdates (POM) and POM-based giant molecules form vesicular supramolecular structures in solution instead of existing as separated ions. In order to investigate the driving forces in this process, different metal chloride salts were added into the polyoxomolybdate solutions and showed strong ionic effects. The size of the associations was affected by the charges and concentrations of counter-ions, which indicated that the electrostatic interaction played an important role during the formation of supramolecular associations. The dependence of critical flocculation concentrations on counter-ion charges showed that the polyoxomolybdate solutions possessed some colloidal behavior due to their extraordinary large sizes.
