β¦ Synopsis
In the past few years solvent abuse has reached epidemic proportions. Although the most popular solvent of abuse is toluene, no deaths have been detected that have been directly attributed to that solvent. Rather, death results from the development of a dangerous situation whilst the person is intoxicated. The major danger from toluene appears to be its potential for causing brain injury. Other solvents are rarely encountered in the living subject, indicating a low incidence of abuse, but more deaths are encountered from the abuse of these materials.
