โœฆ Synopsis

I have invited Professor Crocker to contribute it to make the creation and aims of IIAV known to a somewhat wider audience. I share Professor Crocker's belief that a democratic, international IIAV, affiliated to IUTAM, can play a very important role in today's and the future's science of sound and vibration, in which the problems of analysis of the mechanics involved in its many engineering and other practical applications are increasingly becoming more difficult and in need of solutions than are the problems of the fundamental physics involved.

## Abstract We report the results of testing the diameter of the internal opening of the acoustic canal in the petrous part of the temporal bone for sex determination of skeletal remains. The method involves measuring the diameter using a suite of ordinary drills. The method is very simple and has

A mathematical model for the radiation of baffled finite ducts is presented. This model was developed to be used for the design process of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners. The added value of utilizing this model over using general purpose acoustics software is the increased insight into th
