✦ Synopsis

The anisotropic rotation of 3-chloro-diphenyl has been analysed a function of concentration and temperature using the Woessner model equations. The internal rotation barrier was found to be 3.0 f 0.5 as kcal/mole, increasing on dilution with dimethyl sulphoxide. The overall rotation caused by intermolecular dipole interactions does not depend on viscosity. An extensive decoupling of translation and rotation was observed.
