โฆ Synopsis
THREE TEXT FIGURES AND TWO PLATES (FIFT'EEN FIGURES) I n several papers (Roberts, '41; Slifer, '39, '40 a, '40 b ; Slifer and King, '36) it has been shown that the chitinous internal genitalia of male and female Acrididae may be of considerable value in determining the relationships of the various subfamilies to one another. An extension of such studies to the four other families which belong to the superfamily Acridoidea (Pneumoridae, Tetrigidae, Eumastacidae and Proscopiidae) seems desirable. It has been possible to obtain specimens of females representing three of these families and the results secured with them will be reported here.l All attempts to obtain female Pneumoridae have, so far, failed and should individuals of this rare South African group become available later they will be discussed in a separate article.
The methods of study employed have been described in earlier papers (Slifer, '39, '40 a, '40 b) .
