β¦ Synopsis
The u, + vi combination band ofthe hydrogen cyanide dimer has been observed under sub-Doppler resolution conditions. This mode corresponds to the simultaneous excitation of one quantum in both the "free" C-H stretch and the vt, bending mode of the dimer. When combined with previous work on the Y, fundamental and v, + ui -vh hot bands of the dimer, the bending frequency can be determined in both the ground (40.7511 cm-') and excited (40.5520 cm-') intramolecular vibrational states.

Static gas phase far infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy has been applied to the observation of the low frequency intermolecular bending fundamental v: in the HCN---HF hydrogen-bonded complex. Rovibrational analysis of this band is reported giving the following molecular parameters (in cm-'): 8,
