✦ Synopsis

Two approaches are presented for the analysis of laser action in periodic structures. The first one uses the coupled-wave formalism to analyze guided-wave propagation in a periodic waveguide defined by the coupling coefJicient and the conditions at the cavity ends. The second analysis is based on the transfer matrix method (TMM).
