✦ Synopsis

The interaction of an intramolecular naphtbalene-akylamine exciplex with small dipolar molecules is shown to result in stoichiometric complex formation. The binding energy is suggested to be derived from dipole-dipole and polarization interactions, a hypothesis which is applicable in general to the interaction of polar excited states with individual molecules of polar solvents.
