โฆ Synopsis
The R&O) pure rotational transition of solid hydrogen deuteride in the far infrared (88 cm-') has been measured using a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The line strength (integrated absorption) of this transition was found to be in good agreement with the result of a recent calculation, but considerably larger than that measured in the only previous experiment. A strong dependence of the linewidth of the R,( 0) feature on the isotopic sample purity was observed for liquid HD, and the same effect may be present in the solid.
