✦ Synopsis

Advanced generations of 26 winter hardy pea lines derived from crosses between the Austrian winter pea and annual commercial types are described. Levels of hardiness approaching and equalling the hardy parent are indicated in lines having commercial type peas. Sufficient genetic diversity exists between these lines to permit construction of cultivars adapted to need. The importance of sufficient stand density to permit self protection is discussed.
