We report the identification and mapping of two quantitative trait loci (QTLs) of Solanum spegazzinii BGRC, accession 8218-15, involved in resistance to the potato cyst-nematode Globodera rostochiensis pathotype Ro1, by means of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs). For this purpose we

A detailed study of the esistance to Globode a pallida and G . ostochiensis populations in eleven selected wild Solanum accessions showed that all the accessions had a high level of esistance to a b oad spect um of G. pallida populations . Six of the accessions showed a high level of esistance to G . ostochiensis populations as well . The othe s we e, in compa ison with the susceptible cultiva Ma itta, pa tial esistant to G . ostochiensis .
P ogenies of c osses between diffe ent esistance sou ces and between esistant clones and a pa tial esistant S. phu eja clone showed to G . pallida (pathotype Pa3) a level of esistance compa able to that of the esistant pa ent . The esistance of p ogenies of c osses between esistant (R) and susceptible (S) clones was inte mediate between that of the pa ental clones .
When the dist ibution of the Fl genotypes ove diffe ent ` esistance' classes was examined, significant diffe ences between the RxS p ogenies we e obse ved . Five g oups with diffe ent dist ibutions we e distinguished, va ying in pe centage of esistant plants f om 16 .1 to 58 .9 (s .e . 6 .5).
Significant diffe ences in esistant b eeding values we e found between clones of diffe ent accessions as well as between clones f om the same accession . Between p ogenies of ecip ocal RxS and SxR c osses no diffe ence was obse ved . I S . ve n . 8240 4 .

The presence of resistance to potato cyst-eelworm in wild Lycopersicon species was confirmed. The resistance of two plant accessions, L. pimpineIliJolium, B6173, and L. peruvianum, B6001, was compared in screening tests against three eelworm isolates, using the susceptible L. esculentum Ailsa Craig
Accessions obtained from the Commenwealth Potato Collection were evaluated for resistance to European populations of potato cyst-nematodes (PCN) . With over 36% of the current collection assessed, resistance to pathotypes of both Globodera rostochiensis and G . pallida were identified in 16 species
