โœฆ Synopsis

Anther extrusion was observed on two occasions under glasshouse conditions in two spring wheat varieties which showed different levels of expression of this character, and on F1 and F2 generations of reciprocal crosses between them. The results indicated that anther extrusion was controlled by few, possibly only two, genes with additive effects but had a low heritability. The association of pronounced anther extrusion and particular patterns of extrusion in the ear are suggested as the basis for rapid selection in glasshouse conditions for anther extrusion.

The genetic nature of resistance to four Australian strains of Puccinia recondita was studied in the cultivar Timgalen and in three entries of the 1963 ISWRN, viz, 25 (W3300) 318 (W3301) and 409 (W3303) . Seedling resistance of Timgalen was controlled by the dominant gene Lr3 and by a recessive gene

Crosses were made between the highly susceptible Little Club and the partially resistant cultivars Westphal 12A, Akabozu and BH 1146 to obtain F1, F2 and backcross generations . Latency period (LP) was determined in plants inoculated at the young flag leaf stage with a monospore culture of race `Fla
