The fracture of large second phase particles in advance of a crack tip was investigated. The experiments allow establishment of a fracture criterion for particles. Fracture toughness is shown to increase almost linearly with particle distance.
The authors regret that some data in Table appear in the wrong rows. The measured ductility (e f ) and fracture toughness (K IC ) of the Al-Cu-Mg alloys peak-aged at 483 K should appear in the rows s for 543 K, and the data for 543 K should appear in the rows for 483 K. The e f values for the Al-Mg
