✦ Synopsis

During the formation of cz-SiAlON from a powder mixture wet-milled in isopropyl alcohol at a temperature of 1.500-1600°C there appears considerable amount of p-SiAlON. (LSiAlON is formed in high OL-as well as in high p-Si,N, starting powders. The P-SiAlON is dissolved at higher temperatures. The rate of dissolution of a-S&N, was observed to be higher than that of p-Si,N, and the denstjication and rate of aSiAION formation is higher in high a-Si,N, powder.
