✦ Synopsis

The selective reduction of NO by NH 3 addition has been studied in a lean-burning oil-fired laboratory combustion tunnel with pyridine and thiophene added to the fuel oil. Two distinct but interrelated effects were observed. The conversion of a fixed amount of fuel nitrogen to NO in the flame increased as the thiophene concentration increased. In the postcombustion gases, there was a shift in the temperature dependence of the reduction process when the sulfur combustion products were present. The extent of the NO reduction was not significantly altered, but the optimal temperature for reduction shifted to higher values as the thiopheue concentration increased.

The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by NH3 in the presence of O2 on Cu-faujasite (Cu-FAU) has been studied. Substitution of some Cu2+ with H+ and Na+ cations, compensating for the negative charge of the zeolite framework, forms the various CuHNa-FAU studied. The amount of Cu was held const

The kinetics of the selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by ammonia have been investigated over a vanadia-based commercial DeNOx-catalyst. For temperatures exceeding 200Β°C the kinetic data are described well with a model which is based on an Eley-Rideal mechanism. Below 200Β°C the conversion
