This research focuses on the influence of sulphur content in steel on oxygen assisted CO 2 -laser cutting. S is a highly surface active element that lowers the surface tension and the viscosity of a steel melt. S is known to have a large effect on laser welding due to Marangoni surface convection. Experiments show that steel with high-S content has a larger process window and consequently can support a more stable cutting process.
