✦ Synopsis

The influence of isolation was studied on the development of muricidal behavior and on brain GABA. GABA was significantly lower in several parts of the limbic system of brain taken from muricidal rats, when compared to their non-muricidal counterparts. Isolation potentiated the development of muricidal behavior and lowered GABA levels. Administration of aminooxyacetic acid (AOAA) resulted in a preferential elevation of GABA in the olfactory lobes. Muricidal behavior was inhibited during the AOAAinduced increase in GABA.
