✦ Synopsis
In this paper is reported an experimental study, which aimed at quantifymg the decrease in the packed tube columns efficiency when the liquid phase is distributed non-unifonnly above the bed. The experiments were run in one-tube and multi-tube columns packed with stacked metallic 50 m m Pall rings, using the absorption system ammonia-aid05-l N aqueous solution of H2SO4. For the calculation of the mass transfer coefficients in packed tube columns with a non-uniform distribution of the liquid phase a method was developed which enables agood approximation ofthe experimental results to be achieved.
