โฆ Synopsis
The inertia effect in Charpy impact tests has been analysed theoretically and experimentally in this paper. A solution of the inertia force, which is in a good agreement with experiments, has been obtained. The vibration of the specimen when it is impacted is of a forced second grade in both half lengths of the specimen. The oscillation on the force-time curve obtained from both the hammer and the specimen is caused by the inertia force.
