✦ Synopsis

The indentation of the free surface of a semi infinite Newtonian fluid by a rigid right circular cylinder is considered. It is assumed that the weight and inertia effects of the fluid are negligible compared to its viscous effects.

A transform technique is used to derive expressions for the initial velocity, pressure, and stresses at any point in the fluid as well as for the force required to indent the fluid with a given velocity.
