โœฆ Synopsis

I n 1972, when it was suspected that the use of centrally acting or psychotropic drugs was an increasing factor in impaired driving, a screening procedure for blood and urine specimens was developed from existing toxicological methods. This procedure was used in the examination of 4 2 5 specimens submitted to the laboratory in 1973-76. A survey of the results obtained is presented with a description of the analytical procedure. The most sigtzijicant fact to emerge from the survey is that by far the most common drug encountered was diazepam, representing 69% of all drugs detected.
