โฆ Synopsis
This paper discusses the implementation of Local Agenda 21 in a number of Polish cities and towns. It analyses the way that Agenda 21 initiatives have been adopted and implemented in a period of transition in Poland. It also assesses the role of public participation and community involvement in the Agenda 21 process and stresses the importance of public access to information on the environment and development. After considering the problems and obstacles that are preventing the wider adoption of Agenda 21 initiatives in Poland, it makes a number of recommendations to strengthen the position and performance of local environmental initiatives in Polish municipalities. 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment.
